After receiving acceptance letters from 125 colleges and universities, a New Orleans high school senior is believed to have broken a record by receiving more than $9 million in scholarship offers.
Barnes, a senior at International High School of New Orleans, said he applied to about 200 colleges and universities and received acceptance letters from 125. Barnes told WWL-TV, "I submitted college applications in August, hoping to raise the bar for college admission. I received hundreds of scholarship offers as a result."
Barnes has now received more than $9 million in scholarship offers. In 2019, Normadie Cormier of Lafayette, La., received $8.7 million in scholarship offers, a world record.
Barnes hopes to receive $10 million in scholarship offers by the end of the month. His cumulative grade point average is 4.98, and he plans to pursue a computer science and criminal justice degree simultaneously.
Barnes plans to announce his college decision on May 2.
